Flock is a fibre magnetised through a electrostatic charge to get that
velvety feel.
Fibres are:
Rayon, Cotton, Polyester, Acrylic, Nylon. Out of these fibres, Nylon is what we prefer
to use where it is possible.
Lengths of fibres are from 0,5mm to 2mm long and of different deniers; long fibre for
a plush feel or a short fibre for a prickly feel.
Put on in a lot of different ways to wrap them in velvet. Mixed with a rubber
compound and a heavy nylon flock and heat, set makes a good bond to
polypropylene carpet for logos etc. on mats.
The car industry is using flock more as upholstery on plastics, rubbers and
surrounds.
The boat industry for ceiling condensation problems helping with
evaporation plus its plush feel.
Hot Rods, Race cars, Aeroplanes, Instrument panels, displays, boxes,
Speakers, Door panels, Dashboards, Signwriting, Detailing stripes etc...
Often asked how is it outside so to test the most harshest place on the
bonnet of my work van in the word "FLOCK IT !" in all colour fibres lenghts
and deniers went on March 2007, so still testing !
